HELPFUL COOKING TIPS

SIFTING FLOUR
When you need to sift flour but don't have a sifter or you just don't feel like going to all the trouble, pour some flour into a large mixing bowl and stir it with a wire whisk for a few seconds to fluff it up, then scoop out with your measuring cup. Whisk it after each scoop to keep it fluffed.

PEELING ONIONS
A quick way to avoid onions stinging your eyes is to not stand with your head directly over the onions when you're peeling them. Stand away from the counter with y...

Buffalo chicken wings

Making buffalo chicken is easy. There are any number of ways to prepare the chicken. There is the traditional route of deep-frying wings and drummies; or grilling or baking are an option as well. I've even baked skinless chicken breasts in the oven and cut into strips for a quick and healthier alternative. Regardless of which way you cook your chicken, toss them in this quick and easy buffalo sauce and you can't go wron...

HOMEMADE PASTA SAUCE

Posted by Angela @ farragio on Sunday, June 3, 2012, In : food drink

tomato sauce

I prefer making my own pasta sauce and what I love about this sauce is that it can be used for pasta dishes or as a pizza sauce, and it keeps for a few weeks in the refrigerator so it's a great go-to sauce if you need something in a hurry.

Homemade Pasta & Pizza Sauce

Ingredients
2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 (14.5 oz.) can diced tomatoes, drained (if wine is omitted, do not drain.)

EASY CHICKEN VEGETABLE SOUP

steamy bowl of soup

I keep a large container in the freezer and anytime there are leftover vegetables, macaroni & cheese, or other pastas from dinner I throw them into the container. Over time when I've saved up enough leftovers I make soup.

I love soup. It's a great meal in both winter and summer. It makes a cold wintery day just a little bit nicer, and in the summer it's a good way to make a meal without having to turn on the oven.

Best of all it's a great way to make a delicious meal without putting...

GARLIC LOVE

Posted by Angela @ farragio on Monday, May 14, 2012, In : food drink

Garlic Cloves

I have a cooking motto:

"There is no such thing as too much garlic."

I love garlic. I love the flavor and the aroma.

I remember watching a cooking show and the recipe called for 30 (yes, 30!) cloves of garlic. It sounded wonderful to me.

My mother-in-law was making a dish recently and didn't realize that the little shaker filter wasn't on her jar of garlic powder and accidentally dumped a bunch into her dish. She said it turned out being the best it's ever tasted.

Not only...

Unusually Good Low-Fat Brownies

Ingredients:
1 (20 oz.) box brownie mix
1 (15 oz.) can black beans

Directions:
Puree the can of black beans in a blender and add to brownie mix. ONLY use the black beans with the brownie mix; do not add the oil, eggs, and water that the mix calls for. Just use the pureed beans. Bake as instructed.

I was skeptical but gave it a try. You'll be surprised by h...

BAKED RIGATONI WITH ITALIAN SAUSAGE

Baked Rigatoni w/Italian Sausage

Early in my marriage I knew I'd need a lot of help in the cooking department and came across a great booklet at the grocery checkout called Lawry's Weekday Gourmet. Over the years the booklet fell apart but I made sure to save this family favorite.

When I'm choosing a recipe I have two major criteria; it has to be very flavorful, and not have a lot of fussy ingredients. This one definitely fits the bill.

Baked Rigatoni with Italian Sausage

Ingredients:
1/2 pound Italian sausage

BANANA NUT BREAD

Banana Nut Bread

My son doesn't like bananas, but he loves my banana nut bread it's that good. I think it's the orange juice that enhances the flavor. The best time to make it is when you have bananas that are past their prime. They're softer and easier to work into the batter.
